What is TMS?

TMS stands for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. It is an FDA cleared, non-medication based treatment for depression.

Research is also showing TMS to be beneficial in helping those dealing with conditions such as PTSD, OCD, Addictions, Eating Disorders, Anxiety, Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, and Chronic Pain.

TMS is widely researched and poised to dramatically change the treatment of psychological and neurological conditions.

Currently TMS is FDA approved for the treatment of treatment resistent depression by most insurance providers.

How TMS treatment works at Thomas Park MD & Associates?

You will set a time of day that is convenient for you. You will return 5 days a week until your treatment is complete, usually 4-6 weeks based on the nature of your symptoms. We promise to make the entire process as comfortable and straight forward as possible.

  • During TMS depression treatment sessions, clients remain alert and awake.
  • Most of clients feels no pain during TMS treatment.
  • While clients sometimes report mild headaches and scalp discomfort after the first treatment, the minor irritation subsides after a few sessions.
  • After the session, clients can return home independently and resume their normal daily routine.

Is it safe and effective?

Short Answer, Yes. TMS was approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2008 for treating Major Depressive Disorder in adults who have not responded to prior antidepressant medications.

TMS is effective for adults with depression, who have failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant medication in the current episode. This means that if you have been diagnosed with depression and medication is not working, or the side effects are intolerable, you should ask your doctor about TMS.
